Andrew Lang (31 March 1844 – 20 July 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist,literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology.  
 Andrew was born in Selkirk. The writer's  family was big, he was eldest of eight children. Andrew's mother named Jane Plenderleath Sellar, who was the daughter of Patrick Sellar,  factor to the first duke of Sutherland and lawyer. 
Andrew Lang  married Leonora Blanche Alleyne, youngest daughter of C. T. Alleyne of Clifton and Barbados on 17 April 1875 . His wife helped him with Lang's Color/Rainbow Fairy Books as an author, collaborator, or translator. 


The Shifty Lad is a instructive fiction story, included in The Lilac Fairy Book, created by Andrew Lang. In the land of Edin lived a widow who had an only  son. She saved her money so that could study at the school.  The boy was very clever. Then he finished his  studies, he had to choose the master of trade so that he taught  him , but he  didn’t make it, and became a thief. Read and Enjoy!
