Some years ago, a Spiritualist church approached me about doing a workshop on positive thinking. This may have had something to do with my having to deal with a cognitive disability. After recovering from the initial shock of no longer able to be as active as before, I set about making changes – adapting to something else. This had nothing to do with thinking positively, but more about changing how I think.

This is the next chapter in the Re-Creator series. In this booklet, we will explore some of the strategies I used in order to satisfy the need to contribute to society. When working with a disability, others tend to view you differently. In my case, they looked through me, preferring to deal with someone they felt more comfortable with. This can be aggravating for anyone, especially those experiencing disabilities. It is because of these experiences I am putting this series together. I want these writings to help others understand what it is like to be suddenly treated differently. I want those who wake up to a different life to know they are not alone and that the overwhelming circumstances they may face can be brought under control and made to serve them.

While this focuses on my disability, I like to believe this may be useful to others regardless of their physical or mental conditions. All that is required is desire and commitment. Without these, everything else is wishful thinking.
