Barry Eric Odell Pain (Sep 28, 1864 - May 5, 1928) was an English journalist, poet and writer. Born in Cambridge, and educated at the university, he became a prominent contributor to "The Granta". He was known as a writer of parody and lightly humorous stories. The “Cristian Martyr” is a short story by Barry Pain, included in “Eliza”. The story revolves around an ordinary day of life of an ordinary London couple. A man decides to by a painting to decorate his house. A large painting of a drowned woman. Of course, his wife, Eliza, liked the picture at first, but then started questioned her spouse’s taste, thus bringing it close to a fight.
