We are all spirit-mind-body complexes. We all possess an inner spirit, a divine energy which runs our lives and keeps us alive, from birth to death. We think, learn and act through our minds and our words and actions, which are carried out by our body, determine the quality of our lives here on earth. As you sow, so shall you reap, goes the popular saying. And what you sow depends on your mind and its thoughts. Our thoughts create our life here.
Our thoughts are deeply linked to our emotions, and emotions often precede our thought processes. It is not always in our hands to control our emotions. Neither it is easy to control our thoughts. But thoughts eventually give rise to words and words to actions. We can definitely exercise control over our words, and our actions. The words that we speak have power and it is not difficult to see the power in our daily lives. If you say something nice to someone, praise someone, thank someone, appreciate someone, you can see that the person in question is immediately pleased, happy and feels lifted in spirit and emotions. He starts behaving in a much better fashion with you and others. Likewise, if you were to say a lot of harsh words, shout at someone, abuse someone, criticize someone, hurt someone, insult someone, that person would feel angry or feel sad or feel bad. And his behavior towards you and others will be of a negative nature. If you anger someone too much with your words, it is even possible that the angered person might react with verbal abuse or even physical violence.
Everyone knows the undeniable power of words like ‘thank you’ ‘please’ and ‘sorry’. It’s a very rare person who will not grant you a favor, if you said please, or a rare person who would not melt if you said sorry or thanks. Words carry tremendous power and are linked to our thoughts. It has been said that our thoughts arise, not only from our minds, but also from a Universal mind or universal consciousness of which we are all a part of. Hence, our words, which arise from thoughts, have the power, not only to change our lives, but to literally change the world we live in.
It has been said that ninety percent of our minds, are in the subconscious area. And the subconscious mind, apart from taking care of vital functions of our body like breathing, circulation, excretion and digestion, also communicates with those of others and interacts with various energies in the world. Our subconscious mind content determines whether we are healthy or unhealthy, whether we are successful or failures, whether we are liked or disliked by others, and whether we are wealthy or poor. And one of the best ways to program the subconscious mind is with repetitions, by repeated saying the same things. That is why affirmations are used, to bring about desired results. The desired results, though they come from the outer world, originate within us, in our minds. Hence, the power of words is tremendous and never to be underestimated.
Use your words well, speak gently and with compassion and kindness, always positively, and always for uplifting yourself and the rest of the world.
With this in mind, I have compiled this book, which contains 101 quotes about the power of the word. Many quotes are from the scriptures like the Bible or the Upanishads, while others are from folk wisdom and from men and women of great statue. Study these quotes, read them daily, and let them impress themselves on your subconscious minds. And within a month, see the results, see your life changing, see your circumstances changing, people changing, and see how your life becomes happier, fulfilling, purposeful and divine.
