The Power of Chant invites the young reader along on a thrilling fantasy adventure with four unlikely friends, Taylor, Knife, Fork and Spoon. The opening of this tale finds a very bored Taylor finishing her week on dishes duty. Boredom is quickly replaced by the excitement of impending adventure, as she learns that the last set of eating utensils in the sink can not only talk, but are inviting her along on a quest of discovery. The four travellers are propelled down a dark drainpipe, and on a spine-tingling, action-packed adventure, as they face danger and seemingly insurmountable obstacles in their quest to find out where Sink Water goes to. Their journey intensifies as they battle the waves and currents along the way, and the dangers that every new chapter pitches in their path. This book has been written primarily as a fantasy/adventure, but it also serves to offer the young reader a window through which to observe the threads of compassion, loyalty and courage that weave through the fabric of the story. The author, Mattie Simpson, has endeavoured to convey and highlight the power of comradeship, and also the quintessential requirement of a safe anchorage.
