Back in the late 1970s members of our church became concerned about the mounting worldwide interest in New Age topics and occult religions. I was working with the pastor as a local missionary and church planter. I spoke to him about the matter and we both agreed that it would be a good idea to present a short series of messages about the occult. Since he was going on a trip to speak at several churches that were supporting our work, he suggested that I take the opportunity to present the series.

I began researching many areas of the occult and how the Bible deals with it. I already had some knowledge of the subject because a few people I knew in High School were involved with that kind of stuff. The more I studied, the more concerned I became. It never occurred to me that so many things in everyday life had direct connections to the occult and the works of the devil.

When it came time to present the series I developed, I called it “The Occult World: Death of God?” I chose that title because I felt strongly then, and feel the same way now, that the purpose of the things I found to be connected to the occult was to replace God by providing an alternative to Him. Many of these things were specifically designed to easily deceive people that were looking for spiritual fulfillment...
