The New Order is 2 of 7 in The Joypolis Series.

Cocooned in the belief that Joypolis is the only city to survive the impact of asteroids, its citizens are completely unprepared when, on a balmy summer’s night, the city falls to an attack spearheaded by robots. The leaders within the Tower bow to their ultimatum – surrender or we destroy the Tower.

The robots occupy the Tower and hold the city until their leader, the tyrant Moran, arrives. On his arrival, he renames the city Andrada and begins to impose the harsh measures of his New Order. The first is to cleanse the city of clones.

Fearing for Eva’s life, Ord risks entering the city. He finds her on the verge of a mental breakdown but persuades her to escape with him.

While Laia waits to accuse Zuriko of murder, she sees her on a News broadcast laying a wreath at Darvin’s funeral beside Moran. She fears they may have already formed an alliance. Her fears are justified when, on the following morning, she wakes to find that she is a Wanted Person. At her wit’s end, she wonders if she can ever bring Zuriko to justice.

Against a backdrop of atrocities and executions, the citizens realize the City of Joy is dead and that life will never return to how it was. But every turn of the screw of repression strengthens their resolve to fight back against the tyrant and the march of his mechanized warriors.
