The Marina

She was the class geek and he was the most popular boy in school. He also bullied the hell out of her. To make a horrible matter worse, she was, and still is, hopelessly in love with him. What can go wrong? Short answer: everything. Long answer: everything for the last twenty years.

Marina fell in love with her classmate Nick Laurie when she was eleven-years-old. Meanwhile, Nick Laurie was barely aware of her existence, except when he was making her life a living hell. Two decades later, the tables have turned and Marina is a succesful lawyer, while Nick struggles as a jobless musician with no prospects. When their paths cross as adults, Nick finds himself in a situation where he can take advantage of Marina's everlasting feelings. By standing on Marina's shoulders, Nick begins to achieve everything he's dreamed about, while Marina pays the price, over and over. When Marina begins to reevaluate her relationship with Nick, she discovers that sometimes, holding on to love is not the answer. Throughout his journey, Nick discovers he must eventually face his past, and in doing so, starts to see the true value of his friendship with Marina.
