The Longest Honeymoon

As a child who had never set foot outside her own country, Izni Zahidi grew up wishing for nothing more than to live abroad for her happily ever after. Over the years, she saw her dream crushed several times and just when she thought the borders were closed for ever, she was presented with a rare opportunity to live in four different European countries for two years.

But the saying, “Be careful what you wish for” does not count for nothing.

The next couple of years turned out to be a whirlwind immigration adventure of self-discovery, life, love, Homo sapiens and, well, border controls. Being away from the safe and warm home she had known for twenty-four years and travelling to twenty foreign countries did not leave Izni unchanged. She no longer cries and laughs the same way.

A true story (with some omissions to avoid getting into any more trouble), this is more than travel anecdotes and self-mockery.
