I hold a contest on my T. Mason Gilbert Author Page on Facebook. To begin the contest, I ask people to write one random sentence in the comments section of the post declaring the contest open for submissions.
The first ten people to submit a random sentence are the declared the ‘winners.’
I take the first ten sentences submitted and write a story containing those ten random sentences. This is the short story that I came up with from the third contest and is entitled "The Little Piggies." The story is about a hard-boiled Hispanic detective on the trail of a serial killer, who has a penchant for murdering divorced couples.
The rules are pretty simple and they are:
i) You must not have participated in a prior contest.
ii) It should be a sentence. But sentence fragments sometimes sneak in.
iii) I won’t change the order of the words but I may change or add some punctuation.
iv) It must be an original sentence of your own creation.
v) By entering you release all rights to the sentence.
Here are the ten sentences submitted prior to the creation of “The Little Piggies,” along with the names of the people who submitted them:

  1. It was a dark and stormy night. - Susan Prentiss
  2. Those are my toes you heartless alien. - Dave Cintron
  3. Bite the bullet, not the hand that feeds you. - Toni Mengler Gavell
  4. God? What god? When I look up into the night sky I don't see heavens or hells, I don't see angels or gods nor do I feel their presence, I see stars and I see space, space with no end, I see Eternity and it makes me feel big. - Felipe Avila
  5. He was kept in a bubble all his life by his mother. - Claire Johnson
  6. I don't want to play Cupid anymore. - Jeff Everett
  7. And in the end he knew he did the right thing. - Ken Krieger
  8. And who said, God wasn't the Master of our universe? - Jean Linaburg Swan
  9. And we knew with the rising of the new sunrise we were finally safe. - Robyn Borden
  10. The dumbshit was in the yard with his bags. - Steve Morales
I would like to thank all the people who offered up their sentences for the third Ten Random Sentences Contest. You will find the sentences in bold in the story. Enjoy!
