Darrell Donald Brinkley is a native of Shady Valley, TN and known by many as ‘Mr. Shady Valley.’ He can trace his roots back a mind-bending six generations in the local area. “When I was a young boy I enjoyed spending time with the older generations, listening to their genuine stories.”

Darrell shares more about his remarkable childhood and what it was like to live in this one-of-a-kind small farming community for 83 years. What it was like before electricity, telephones and indoor plumbing, then mining, logging, saw milling and farming before they were mechanized. How families learned to survive through unparalleled hard work, and being prepared. They knew how to live off the land, provide for their family and listen to the trusted wisdom of ‘The Almighty.’ The challenge just to survive included hard work and determination. Back then there was no government assistance…you had to figure it out by yourself. “And we did!”
