Victoria (1819-1901) was a queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and also the Empress of India. By the the time Victoria inheritated the throne, a strict political system had been established in the UK. According to that system the monarch possessed no actual political power. Victoria made an attempt to change that system, trying to influence the government's policy. Queen Victoria was very popular with common people as she was a lady of strict moral code and eventually she became a national idol. Queen Victoria reigned for 63 years, more than any other British monarch. The period of her reigning is traditionally called the Victorian Era. The Victorian Era is considered to be one of the most important periods in British history for all times, although it was marked by contant changes in all the spheres of life: industry, politics, religion, science, etc. During that Era the country was not involved in military confilcts and that gave it an opportunity for development This book represents a collection of the letters of Queen Victoria, published in 3 volumes. The second volume includes letters from 1844 till 1853.
