When four Revolutionary War soldiers are captured by the British they manage to get paroled by promising them they will fight against them no more. However, their commanding officers do not accept their parole even though their enlistments were up long ago. Being men of their word the four men decide to flee. They hide out in a small pond in the town of Durant, New Hampshire, where they spend the next 2 1/2 years struggling to survive in the wilderness.
