The Lamp in the Desert by Ethel M. Dell is one of the fiction best sellers in 1920. The novel has been adapted for the British silent drama film Lamp in the Desert in 1922, directed by F. Martin Thornton and starring Gladys Jennings, Louis Willoughby and George K. Arthur.
This is a story of a pretty young lady, Stella, who journeys to India to see her Soldier brother, Tommy. She doesn’t want to bring shame to her brother by traveling without a chaperone, which is not accepted by the British society. So she accepts a marriage proposal from handsome British officer, Ralph Dacre. Unfortunately, without her knowledge Ralph has a wife back home in England.
Tommy's friend, Captain Monck, loves Stella. He finds out about Ralph and plans to get Stella out of his deceitful circle.
