“The Kaipakas” is a thriller that begins in Los Angeles and ends on the island of Oahu, circa 1983.
Leilani, a recent college grad, discovers after her mother’s untimely demise, that she is an heiress, and that the father she’s never known is not dead. The bad news is her father, Kaleo Kaipaka, comes from a long line of Kahunas, the most powerful and malevolent of which is his great grandmother, Mama Ku, a high ranking Kapu. Legend has it that Leilani, the only female born Kaipaka, possesses powers even greater than Mama Ku’s, and she wants Leilani dead.
Leilani discovers that Mama Ku is her mother's murderer and seeks vengeance, but quickly falls into one of Mama Ku’s traps mere hours after her plane lands on the island of Oahu. Leilani is falsely accused of a crime, arrested, denied bail, and placed in the controversial new women’s prison called “Hookipa,” where it is rumored that “Night Marchers,” ancient warriors, will return on the next full moon to avenge the desecration of their burial ground and leave no one alive. Leilani’s attorneys work valiantly for her release, but lose their lives in the process.
Marlon, the son of Obaleea, a powerful Shaman and Leilani’s mentor, comes to Leilani’s rescue. Marlon is Leilani’s last hope, but she mistrusts him and refuses to believe that he is Obaleea’s son. Marlon finally earns her trust by teaming up with her father, Kaleo Kaipaka, to free her from Hookipa.
The prophesied arrival of “The Night Marchers” is eclipsed by Mama Ku's declaration of war against Kaleo, provoking the final confrontation and inevitable fight to the death with her sworn enemy, Leilani.
