I have now been happily married for 10 years (almost) at the time of writing. I am 55 years old, have never been married before but I am enjoying my married life tremendously.
Marriage is not about luck, it is sometimes hard work, it requires sacrifice, sometimes a complete change of ideas but the benefits are incredible and beyond my wildest dreams. It is and remains the best decision of my life to get married. By far.
Of course, marriage involves two people and I am eternally grateful to my lovely wife Sandra who has shared this journey with me. We have grown together and are now reaping the rewards from our experiences.
I do come from a family where everyone it appears has been married for a very long time. My parents have been married for 56 years and still going. My Aunt (Dad’s sister) and Uncle have been married for nearly 60 years at the time of writing. My Uncle (Dad’s brother) was married for 20 years before my Aunt died. Both sets of grandparents were married for over 40 years before death parted them.
I have also read a lot about marriage and relationships (from my life coaching studies) as well as observing my friends and colleagues and how they conduct their married lives (not that you truly know what is going on behind closed doors). Even the failed marriages of others has taught me something.
This eBook sets down 100 insights that I truly hope will help you in your marriage or relationships generally. I am not a medical practitioner or psychiatrist etc., but I am a man of experience and these are my positive experiences or what I have learned from the more negative ones. And being a man, the advice in this book tends towards what you can practically do to make your marriage work.
There are some areas where I have gained experience but I do not want my entire relationship exposed to the world. Therefore in this book I will just refer to issues that my wife have had in a general way, after all we all have them. However I will not be going into detail on these, it is our private matter.
Also our sex life is personal too so there is no mention of this either or things where we have no experience (infidelity, drug abuse, alcoholism, abuse). For such matters please see Section 7 Additional Resources in this book where you can find more specific literature to address these issues.
In order that the book is easier to navigate through, I have divided it up into seven sections as follows:
Before Commitment
The Commitment
Making Adjustments
The Art of Arguing
Why only one person can change
Hope for Harmony
Further Resources
Please enjoy your reading and I hope that this eBook helps you in some way and adds to your wealth and happiness.
