The little Ghastlys are up to mischief again. Their tricks do not amuse the Mayor, and they must do something good for the town or the whole family are to be thrown out of the Ghostly Ghastly House.

The Ghastlys are a family of ghosts. There's Mr and Mrs Ghastly, and the three little Ghastlys, Bubble, Trouble and Puff. Mr and Mrs Ghastly are well known opera singers in the ghost world. The little Ghastlys don’t like opera – they think it's like cats howling, and cats do that better anyway.

The Ghastlys used to live at the castle, but the children’s tricks angered the other ghosts there and the family was forced to leave. They went through the town looking for a new home, but every place was too small, too shiny, or too new - and the little Ghastlys' pranks upset the people living there.
Then they found the old Town Museum and moved in. It was renamed the Ghostly Ghastly House, and opened to the public with the Ghastlys themselves as the main attraction. They live there with three polite skeletons, Branwing, a vegetarian vampire and Princess who becomes a dog when there's a full moon.
The little Ghastlys are allowed to play tricks on people who visit, because they are expecting to be scared. But Mr and Mrs Ghastly have told the children not to play tricks on people who aren’t expecting them. This can get boring. People scream much louder when they don’t expect to be frightened. The louder people scream, the more the little Ghastlys like it.

So on New Year's Day they go exploring - and that spells trouble for the townspeople!

This is Book 7 in the series. It is a chapter book for readers 7-9 years. See the author's website www.barbaragodwin.com for news, further information, giveaways and to join The Ghostly Ghastly Readers' Club.
