The First Olympic Golf Match

Golf is at last being re-introduced into the Olympic programme, and with information taken from the JWB Historical Library, compiled over four decades, this publication commemorates and reviews the first ever Olympic golf match played in Paris on 2 October 1900. The twelve prominent men who took part in the historic match included the son of a holder of the Victoria Cross, an International rugby player, the man who revolutionised workplace methods and a pioneering aviator. The narrative includes a concise story of the early years of golf and the Olympic Games, to bring the 1900 tournament into perspective. A detailed account of the match is complemented with biographical tributes to those who took part. The project brings together more information on the subject than has ever before been published.
