The idea of something as small and insignificant as a mosquito being the key agent in recent epidemics is wholly mind-boggling to me. Something that literally feeds off of the edges of society is causing life-long complications and even death in people, even in this day and age. What is possibly the most frightening thing about the current outbreaks of the West Nile virus is that there is not a cure for it. Still a very young disease, the West Nile virus has already spread from one end of the earth to other continents, all within the space of eighty years or so.
At this current time, in August of 2012, the West Nile virus has infected almost 700 people in the United States. Of all of those, 26 have already died as a direct result. In the wake of all of the damage that has been done, it is extremely important that facts are published so that people can learn more about this epidemic, and educate themselves and others. Education can easily help when it comes to preventing the spread of this virus.
In this book, both facts and hypothesis will be presented in order to help the reader protect themselves and their families from this danger. I will go over the origins of the West Nile virus; the path the virus has taken over the course of history, how it is transmitted, and who is at risk for this deadly virus. I will also describe the symptoms of both the virus and the disease that follows extreme cases. The effects of the virus will be shared, as well as different measures that are available to prevent the spread of this virus.
