The Engagement Game

Andrea had created The Engagement Game eight years before, after the failure of her first marriage. She had edged the pink tapestry with red and gray squares that could fork into the path of the heart or into the storm. All of that weaving and stitching had helped her to survive all the hurt and the hate she had felt in the aftermath of a bitter divorce. He had never loved her, only pretended to in order to scam her out of every penny she had. The price of settlement, the money and her pride, was worth it to put him out of her life forever. The Engagement Game had forced her heart to consult her brain before accepting another ring. Twice played, the second scored a winner, or at least a comforting husband who didn’t give a damn about money.
