The Church in Contemporary Nigeria is published to mark the 70th Anniversary of BTS Eku to the Glory of GOD Almighty. The title of the book is also the theme of this year, 2015 Baptist Ministers' Conference. The anthology contains writings that called our attention to one great need: the need for biblical Christianity in modern Nigeria. The church in contemporary Nigeria urgently needs to return to biblical Christianity. Churches in Nigeria are plagued with nominal Christians, false miracle workers, modern-day Pharisees and false teaching of many kinds. The church is consumed with conflict, denominationalism and division. All of these have kept the church from being the greatest force on earth for good and for God in a sick and sin-filled world.

Biblical Christianity means a church that is alive with the love of God by the power of the Holy Spirit through people who have been born of the Spirit (Tit. 2:14; 3:5-6). It means a church where the members love each other so the people outside the church are drawn to Christ by what they see in the life of Christians. It means a church where the members are united as Jesus prayed they would be. Biblical Christianity means a loving, united community which can act together as a body to meet the needs of the poor, the homeless, the handicapped, the hurting, the sick, the needy, the discouraged and the forgotten. It's a church which joyfully gives of its money, its resources and its people to be the instruments of the love of God to a sick and dying world so that hope and meaning can be returned to broken and bitter people. We hope this book will help to bring a revival based on obedience to the Word of God as well as reconciliation, love and unity to God's people.
We sincerely appreciate all who contributed to this book. Long live Baptist Theological Seminary, Eku! To God be the glory!

Dr. GoodFriday N. Aghawenu,
President, BTS, Eku. August 2015.
