The book, The Business of Scaleup, is made up of three parts. The first is a review of engineering scaleup procedures, similar to those published in Process Scaleup and Design. Additional stories have been added. The second is a research paper that provides an example of a process scaledown. The main conclusions from these two discussions are that: 1) geometric similarity can be a hinderance to an effective and profitable design and 2) simple scaledown studies can provide significant insight into the operation of large scale processes. The third portion of the book provides monthly columns that were published in Chemical Processing magazine from 1998 to 2003. These columns contain significant process information and operational insight that should not be lost to history.
