A man of great melancholies who is prone to bury his woes in a shot glass, Ansen drifts from job to job, taking on details for which no one else is suited when he runs out of money. When a movie producer approaches a nearly-broke Ansen in a dingy bar in Zimbabwe with a job offer working security for a location shoot, he decides he has nothing to lose. A globetrotter, he often found himself in circumstances where he must offer his expertise in mercenary forms to eke out a living. Not to mention, the blonde playing the lead role is easy on the eyes.

After making land, they march inland to their campsite where they soon suspect they're not alone. For years he'd carried the tomahawk he inherited from a medicine man, the ancient weapon seeming ever destined to draw him into confrontation with supernatural evil in bizarre, mind-blasting, forms. But even Ansen is unprepared for what he finds atop the cliffs of this unknown island.

This introductory short story in the Weird Tales tradition will be followed by Tales of the Tomahawk Volume 2: The Banshee of the Atacama.
