1988: Halabja The Black Desert The life of Serbest shattered with the disappearance of his father, and was forced to abandon the comfortable life of the city for a harsh village life to escape the harassment of the authority. He barely manages to come to terms with his loss and his new life when he meets a girl and soon falls in love with her. While he was contemplating his future the army had other plans. They end up in the southern deserts where they were shot and buried in mass graves. Serbest, despite his injuries manages to escape and in the mayhem and the darkness of the night he becomes separated from his girlfriend. In the event of trying to find his way, he stumbles on an injured soldier, who forces him away and promises to help him find his friend. They decide to hide in the marshes only to be captured by a group of Marsh Arab. Their struggles for survival continue, faced with fresh challenges with every escape route closed in their face. The novel based on true-life stories and historical events that happened in Iraq during Saddams Anfal campaign.
