A new digital edition of a classic bird book by the Rev. J. M. McWilliam, a founding member and first Honorary President of the Scottish Ornithologists’ Club.

Published in 1936, J. M. McWilliam’s sequel to The Birds of the Island of Bute covers Glasgow, Renfrewshire, Dumbartonshire, Ayrshire, all of the Clyde islands, and the southern half of Argyllshire. While writing his book the author made numerous field trips from his manse in Govan, and conducted an exhaustive search of references to Clyde birds in books and papers as far back as the 16th century. The result is a goldmine of information about the birdlife of the Firth of Clyde.

The republication for Kobo of this classic work by McWilliam, one of the great characters of Scottish ornithology, includes as a bonus chapter a rare 1938 paper The Birds of Inchmarnock, a Clyde Island. An interactive Species List allows instant access to all of the book’s 251 species descriptions. The ebook includes the original photographs featured in the 1936 print edition.
