Adam was kicked out of Eden for deciding on his own that nakedness was wrong, and the consequences of doing what was 'right in their own eyes' made man so bad that God decided to destroy him. Noah and his family were the only ones saved and they immediately started to do the same thing that God hated. We are like the examples that followed this in the next chapters. The efforts of those who tried to decide what was good and evil led to the discussions of Job, who was told off by God — 'Who is this speaking words without knowledge.'

Since we must have some guidelines men tried to develop them, but each could only see the problems involved from their own point of view. Finally, in the gospels, God though Jesus gave us guidelines that we can follow. What you do for others is the goal. You are accepted as you are, and when you foul up you will be forgiven, even if the consequences of your actions are not changed. Some practical understandings of specific situations follow, and eventually God's will will prevail.
