A small-town election has high stakes in The Ballot Box. Pete Connor is running against the incumbent representative in a bitter campaign that could turn honest men into thieves and liars. Meanwhile, an unknown party plants lies and starts rumors while maintaining his or her anonymity. Kate Conroy tries to keep the peace as the infighting among the political players increases. She stays by Pete’s side during rallies, banquets, fundraisers and lonely nights. She is willing to do whatever it takes to help him win the election. The politicians woo the hardworking coal miner families with food and drink and make backroom deals. Maneuvers and manipulations go awry on the night of the election, leading a heated confrontation and the culprit’s revelation. What will decide the election: bribery or democracy?
