The Avalon Affair

The headless corpse of a young woman, identity unknown, is discovered off the coast of Newport Beach. Several days later, another young woman passes by the area as an observer in a powerboat navigation contest. Carole Nolan is enjoying a two-day break from her loveless marriage aboard Dr. Bob Watson’s yacht, and she imagines her life as Bob’s wife, knowing that his marriage is equally unhappy. When her fantasy suddenly becomes reality, what should have been Bob and Carole’s great joy is shattered by family disapproval, an unplanned pregnancy and, most significantly, by the charge that Bob’s son, Brett, is a serial murderer.

With evidence stacking up against Brett, Carole enlists the help of her daughter, Cindy, and Brett’s twin sister, Brianna, to prove her stepson’s innocence of the crime. Carole’s paralegal knowledge and martial arts skills, plus Cindy’s computer expertise, give this unlikely female team the clout needed to launch their own investigation. Their experiences range from humorous to horrifying as Carole and the girls infiltrate a religious cult headed by an oddly zealous minister who preaches brotherly love but may be practicing something quite different. Carole quickly finds that she and the girls have become prime targets as they unravel a complex – and deadly – puzzle.
