After the end of the war and Ed’s disappearance when his plane comes down in the English Channel, Azeem returns to Myrtle Wood with his wife, Sara and two children. Azeem eventually talks his mother into returning to Egypt to be with Aezrakan while he and his close friend, Iban, Hamid’s son, start an Arabian horse farm on the Myrtle Wood plantation. The book begins with the unexpected arrival of an Arab man named, Tuba Shanta, who appears one day to ask Azeem for a job. It seems that on Tuba’s father’s death bed, he had sent Tuba with his exceptional skills to Azeem. No doubt in years passed in Egypt, Tuba’s grandfather had been saved by Aezrakan’s grandfather, Shalamar, and the family wanted to pay back their debt to Aezrakan’s family. Between this amazing man, Tuba, Iban, and Azeem, along with their trusted and beloved staff, they begin to train a horse named, White Lightning, to race. When later approached by the Racing Federation to bring a horse to a special race for Arabian’s, Tuba helps them locate a former jockey, Jose’ Rayvous, once injured in a car accident and who had disappeared from the tracks. This tells how these men worked together to go to the big event. Also, while there, Azeem spots a man during a party for the owners given the night before the race. The man with a long scar on his face Azeem is convinced is his old childhood friend, Ed Hobson. Read and enjoy this exciting book of race horses, the rekindling of a lost friendship, and the part Julia and Aezrakan play in their lives.
