The day very close friends Dr. Elizabeth Doty and heiress Catherine Ansdell sat down and discussed what direction they wanted to take with their lives was the day life changed forever for them. Both were on the same wavelength, but neither quite knew how to proceed. Over a period of several months of observation, research, and planning, Elizabeth realized one of her patients, John Murdock, whom another good friend had referred to her, was the best candidate to fulfill the plans she and Catherine concocted.

John Murdock, a handsome, light haired blue eyed screen editor moved to LA after college in Iowa to pursue a career in the movie industry. After 18 months with John as her patient, Dr. Doty surprises John by telling him she would like to know more about him personally, She suggests they meet for dinner. Eventually, John meets Elizabeth’s roommate, Catherine Ansdell and the three develop an awkward yet pleasant relationship.

During a comfortable relaxing moment between the three of them, Catherine and Elizabeth approach John about forming a non-traditional family unit with them. They both came from families where a strong and loving father had a very positive influence on them, and that was what they want for the child they plan for. John is the man they feel would be right for the place in their child’s life.

After the shock of what was being proposed, John spends a great deal of agonizing time trying to find a reason not to accept. Along with the gentle encouragement of Jana Rosenberg, John decides he has no one or anything else he is involved with that precludes him from accepting the proposal.

The Amended Family follows the trials, the successes, the frustrations, and the joy experienced by Elizabeth, Catherine, and John in their adventure of forming and living within their amended family.
