Leslie Mayer wrote "The Adventures of Mrs. Almaletta Finks" in 1963 while living with her husband and three daughters in suburban California. A professional artist, Leslie wrote her children's book after becoming a teacher's aid to Mrs. Alma Finks, her daughter Jean's first grade teacher. After a few rejections from publishers, the manuscript was put aside.

In 2007, with her eyesight failing due to Macular Degeneration, unable to paint or read, Leslie was becoming increasingly frustrated and depressed. Her daughter, Jean Fogelberg, brought the old manuscript out and worked with Leslie to breathe new life into it. Jean created the cover design and self-published the book in 2010, giving Leslie a new sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Enjoyed by children and adults alike, you can view comments and pictures drawn by children for Leslie at: www.almalettafinks.com
