This book was compiled to celebrate fifty years of ministry in Scarborough at Faith Baptist Church and to provide a lasting and meaningful memorial to mark this occasion. We recognize the dedication and labour of those who pioneered this work and those who built it up through the early decades so that this current generation inherited an established ministry.
A history of the church is included, based on church documents. However, minutes in no way tell the tears, the pain, the hurt, the agonized prayers, the sin, and sometimes the division and schism as Christ’s garment was sorely rent. Nor do they tell fully the tale of lives saved, victories won, lives and hearts encouraged, sermons preached, prayer meetings attended, hospital rooms and homes visited—the highs and lows of church life. But, then again, that record is kept in Heaven and on the Day of Judgment may unfold in such a way as to see that God’s hand was in it all, to the glory of our Lord.
The main focus of this book is the conversion stories of some of our current members. Hearing how God has worked in the hearts of His people in various ways is always encouraging to believers. Many of us have not even heard each other’s “stories,” even though we have been fellowshipping together for years.
This is a snapshot of the church at the fifty-year mark. This is our story. It is our hope that those who read it will be encouraged and will praise God.
