Initially penned by the avid outdoors-man and western writer Zane Grey on March 21, 1885 in Lackawaxen, Pennsylvania, this is a rare short story by the author, often mistaken by the similarly themed "My First Tarpon" and ""Incidents on the Panuco." The plot is set in Tampico, Mexico where Grey, an avid angler, beached the tarpon - large air-breathing fish of the genus Megalops with only two surviving species. One species is native to the Atlantic, and the other to the Indo-Pacific Seas. They are the only members of the family Megalopidae.
