As soon as Laura was brought her mount, she took the time for introductions. Talked to the mare quietly, stroked her. Then, she mounted and waited for Brad, who had just been stunned to see what she was doing. He got on his horse and they rode side by side.
“Laura, what were you doing before you got on the horse?”
“Introductions.”
“Introductions?”
“Of course, when you meet someone, you introduce yourself and they do the same, right? Well it applies to horses too.”
“I could see the mare’s reaction to you. I had no idea that you were so good with animals. You are barely doing anything and she reads you like you have been riding together for years and I’m the one who worked around horses for years! You have some magic connection!”

“I bet you never came across a dog or a cat who just didn’t lie down on its back for a belly rub! Can’t wait to see how old Duke will react to you!”

“My mother’s cat. She’s the only one who can, but very rarely, get to give him a belly rub.”
“Duke sounds like he needs a little one-on-one.”
“A one-on-one?”
“Can’t really explain it, but if I ever get to meet Duke, your mother will get to give him as many belly rubs as the two of them can agree upon.”
