CITYGREEN, winner of the APEX Awards for Publication Excellence for three consecutive years - 2014, 2013 and 2012, is a biannual publication of the Centre for Urban Greenery & Ecology, Singapore. It presents current research on greening and ecology of the urban environment, and features outstanding green projects in international cities. This issue rounds up a number of project features that impressively demonstrate skyrise greenery, such as the PARKROYAL on Pickering hotel by WOHA Architects and Jardin condominium by DP Architects. Both high-rise developments go and the VanDusen botanical garden Visitor Centre.

Market research by Lux Research inc. in 2012 showed positive forecasts for the global green roof and green wall market, suggesting a sure role for such landscape treatments in the future of cities. Aditya Ranade shares the key findings of the study. in line with the growing market, more rigourous standards and testing of various green materials will prove essential. Marc Ottelé shares the findings of a life-cycle assessment conducted with collaborators to understand the cradle-to-grave environmental impacts of five different types of vertical greenery systems. In Japan, extensive green roofs are the emerging complement to the currently more popular intensive green roofs for a range of reasons, as Ayako Nagase elaborates.

The issue also reports on the commendable winners of the international green Roof and Wall Awards of excellence 2012.
