August 2014 – President Putin of Russia threatens nuclear war over Ukraine.
August 2014 – North Korea threatens to attack the US with nuclear force.
October 2014 – Huge Solar Flare erupts largest in 24 years.
September 2014 – Massive Solar Flare surges off the sun – NASA
All of the above events are true, both China and Russia are reported to have deployable EMP weapons as well as North Korea. No one really knows what would happen in the event one of the EMP weapons is exploded over the United States or if a Solar Flare so large that it hit the planet full force. Of course there are EMP generators which can give us some idea but those tests in many ways have been somewhat inconclusive. Certainly we would lose electricity and many household and industrial items would stop running, researchers strongly feel that anything solid state would cease to run, but what if it was left unplugged and in a shed made out of metal? Farfetched? maybe..
What cars really would not run, what years? Some researchers say most cars would be ok because they are metal and insulated by the tires, others say vehicles 1991 and older would be ok, and then others say any vehicles 1970 and older would be fine. Typical doom and gloom novels pour it on and give the reader the impression the world is ending but again it’s fiction and we are fascinated by end-of-the-world scenarios.
Why is it that every single end-of-the-world novel I have ever read places the US Military as being wiped out or it turns on the population and becomes its own government or rogue outfit. As a US Army veteran I know that most of the men and women I served with would be loyal to the country and that wouldn’t change because of an EMP event. And out of any one sector to include preppers the US Military is by and large the most prepared for such an event and in some cases train for it. This novel takes a much different look at what happens when an EMP event hits and how the US Military collects itself and sets forth under the Flag and Constitution of the United States and does its best to put the country back together.
