Victoria Carswell, named after the queen by her strait-laced mother, chafes against the restricted life and strict morals of Victorian society. She has a passion for reading the history of Sussex, renowned for its pirates and smugglers. Fascinated by abandoned Bodiam Castle on the River Rother, she often swims naked at dawn, relishing the sense of freedom it provides from the narrow confines of the life she leads.
One day, exploring inside the castle, she is suddenly swept back 100 years to the decadent Georgian era where Lord Falcon Hawkhurst, the dashing smuggler and owner of Bodiam Castle, lures her into a breathless adventure and sizzling love affair that defies every rule.
