Laurence Mark Janifer (1933-2002) was a noted American science fiction writer and editor. Born in Brooklyn, Janifer's work appeared in many of the science fiction magazines of the 1950s and 1960s, but he was perhaps best known for his "Survivor" series, which followed the career of Gerald Knave as he visited planets beyond the fringes of galactic civilization. Janifer also collaborated with Randall Garrett (under the pen name "Mark Phillips") in the Psi-Power series. The first book, BRAIN TWISTER, was nominated for a Hugo Best Novel Award in 1960.
