Shoegazing

"Kyle's pace slowed significantly as he drew near the group. His gaze was fixed on the girl wearing a mauve wool cap out of which fell feathery, light brown hair down past her shoulders. She was sitting on the bottom step off to the side and was looking away from the school, ignoring her boyfriend's silly behavior on the landing. Her arms were crossed in front of her, holding them close to her stylish, grey wool coat, trying to keep warm. The grimace on her face suggested she was barely tolerating Chad and his companions.

Kyle swallowed hard at the sight of her and regretted coming now. He had no idea Chad had invited his girl to join the crew today. This was going to be difficult. But it wasn't because Kyle loathed Katie Mills, the slim, attractive girl who was not just Chad's girlfriend, but was one of the prettiest girls in school.
