The only thing she has left to lose is herself.
Carla Mainston is stuck in a dead end job, and her friends have all left her behind. Life sucks, so she quits her job and nearly blows up her bullying boss with her malfunctioning powers. Then she heads out into the world on a quest to find her missing friends.

High on power and running away from her problems, Carla travels to Zoola—party central—and becomes engrossed in a dangerous world of drinking and escapism, completely unaware of the devastating effects it will have on the people she cares about the most.

Her drinking and clubbing begins to spiral out of control when she ends up homeless and friendless with dangerous enemies popping up all over the place. With a hit man trying to kill her and a psychopath stalking her, she’ll be lucky if she survives long enough to make amends and pick up the pieces of her shattered life.

Shattered is a teen scifi and fantasy adventure in The Outliers, a YA science fiction series set in a colorful future world.

"Wildly, bizarrely, brain-punchingly inventive!" - Derek Landy, Author of Skulduggery Pleasant.

Interview with the Author
Q - What kind of reader would like this book?
A - I think this book will appeal to readers who are looking for a teen scifi adventure that makes them smile. If you want to read about a funny YA science fiction alien, a strong heroine or a humourous teen adventure that is set in a dystopian future world, then you'll probably enjoy these stories. The young adult fantasy books in The Outliers contain humorous mysteries set in a unique science fiction world, so each book explores different colonies; their gods, societies, spies and superheroes. The storylines span from alien colonization and comedy spies to deadly viruses and the apocalypse, so there are a lot of elements that any sci-fi reader would enjoy. Also, these are humor books, so there is a lot of silly stuff in there too.

Q - Have you been writing for a long time?
A - Yes. I was first published in 1994, and since then I've written and published many books, including writing for Harlequin and winning the SYTYCW competition. It's been a fun journey so far. I've had the opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best writers in the world along the way, which has been amazing.

Q - What makes The Outliers so special?
A - I think it's the combination of light-hearted teen comedy and the vast science fiction world the series is set in that I enjoy about the stories. Along with the hea adventure and juvenile detention, there are books in the series about funny time travel, science fiction satire and comedy spies. The stories are also teenage superhero novels with teenage YA mystery in the mix. Each book is about a new colony, and each one is unique. It's exciting exploring all those different new colonies. On top of that, there are a lot of underlying themes that the stories touch upon in a light and teen-friendly way: developing societies, teen romance and relationships, stereotyping, cultural diversity, environmental issues. The series is based around very real themes that are cloaked in a comedy science fiction world.

Thanks for reading!
