Shadows Over Texas

by Kat Kelly

Embark in this heartbreaking novel, based on the true life experience of survival and the determination of a young girl to achieve an impossible dream. Follow Sonya as she struggles and crawls out of her stepfather’s sexually abusive grip. Born into poverty during the middle of the Great Depression, she is challenged to the worst encounters a young girl can face. Having lost her mother at a young age, Sonya is forced to face the horrid effects of abuse. She and her and her sibling are deprived from an education. Feel her battles from childhood with a speech impediment. Escaping the enslaved labor camps, she leaves behind her beloved siblings, never to see them again. Her driven determination for an education was confronted by the unexpected—the men that took advantage of her ignorance and innocence. Your heart will rend as she is forced to surrender her two newborn sons for the sake of a better and a chance in life. You will learn of her bittersweet marriages and the course that takes her to the unlimited expectations of the rich and famous.

You will find Sonya reach for the alternate in life and finds happiness, only to be crushed by greed and the powerful cattle and oil barons. She fights the discriminations that blight her all her life. Finally, she finds true love in her life, only to have it ripped away from her by vengeance and jealousy.

About the Author

This is Kat Kelly’s first novel. She spent her early years in traveling the country. She left home at an early age, rebelling against any and all authority. After dropping out of school, she joined the immigrants in Texas working on the cotton fields in the labor camps. She started to pencil out the stories and living conditions of the immigrants and their battles to make a living.

Kat Kelly decided to go back to school and acquire a college degree. A year ago, she found her old stories from early age and started to put the stories on paper. From some of her life experience and the amazing stories she penciled out at a young age, she decided to write this book. Para mis amigos.
