Twenty years in a loveless marriage destroyed Amy’s self-esteem. Now, like her marriage, her car was slowly falling apart. If she didn’t find a way to get a new one, she would lose what little she had left. With her inner voice reminding her of her faults, Amy thought washing dishes part-time would be a good fit, but there was something more to the restaurant than the help wanted ad suggested.

From the day the rumor of Serenity’s opening started, Amy’s religious coworkers at the printing company wanted to get the place shut down. Already a sinner in her supervisor's eyes, Amy had the feeling that if she set foot on Serenity’s property and her supervisor found out, she could lose her job: a job that kept her son in college and herself off the streets.

She had to take the chance. Her son depended on her. Amy had already failed him once and didn’t want to fail him again. Swallowing her fear, and ignoring that voice in the back of her mind, Amy stepped into Serenity.

Her first impression of the owner, and from the way Jonathan spoke to her, helped that voice shred her confidence, but a part of her that she thought had died suddenly sparked and got her the job.

Serenity wasn't the dive everyone had told her it was. From what she could see from the dish room, it was a respectable restaurant, and nothing seemed out of place...
