Senator Joseph McCarthy Crimes and Unethical Behavior

Joseph McCarthy's career in the United States Senate was a tempestuous one to say the least. Elected in 1947 as Republican U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, he is most noted for his campaigns to eliminate Communists from the State Department, the U.S. Army and various government agencies. Many are unaware of his struggles regarding the taxes that he filed beginning in 1943 when he was on leave from his job as a Circuit Court judge from Appleton, Wisconsin. As a U.S. Marine McCarthy invested in speculative bonds which made him a sizable sum. His income and what he owed on what he made was debated for many years. Lots of people gave the Senator money for his anti-Communist efforts. Companies contributed lots to him in return for his votes to help their businesses out.
