MPT’s Spring issue ‘Scorched Glass’ focuses on Iranian poetry, with a selection of new translations of poets including Forugh Farrokhzad, Nima Yushij and London Iranian writer, Ziba Karbassi. The featured translations have been the results of collaborations between UK-based poets, including Pascale Petit, Paul Batchelor and Stephen Watts, and Iranian poets and translators. In an email interview Iranian critic Atafeh Tahaee looks at the twentieth century and Iranian poetic tradition. The issue also features selections of poems by the eminent Belgian poet Guy Goffette, new work by Choman Hardi which looks back at difficult times in recent Kurdish history and Jack Mapanje’s retelling of folktale. Charlie Louth examines new translations of Gottfried Benn, Olivia Hellewell pays tribute to Tomaž Šalamun and Gareth Prior looks at journeys to the Underworld in classical texts. All this in this new issue of the groundbreaking magazine dedicated to poetry in translation.
