At the age of nine, lying on the old shared mattress next to her sleeping sister and Nonna, Trish vowed not to live like this forever. Looking through a hole in the asbestos wall, the night was dark, as black as black, but through the hole she could see the speck of a star in the far sky, and to her, it represented a light of hope.

Trish Rechichi is the fifth of eight children born to hard-working, Italian immigrants who lived on a Bindoon farm north of Perth, Western Australia from 1967 to the early 80s. This is the story of Trish, her two remarkable, loving parents and their family's early experiences that spurred on an unstoppable ambition in her to escape poverty.
