The need for guidance in the running of our nation's volunteer fire service could never be greater. The economic forces that are at work in our nation have made the task of organizing and funding our local volunteer fire departments more difficult than ever.
The focus of my doctoral research identified that there are five general forces at work in our volunteer fire service world today. They are:
•Leadership
•Economics
•Personal issues
•Interpersonal issues
•Economic issues
The purpose of this text is to provide you, the reader, with sufficient facts, figures, and focus to be able to run your local volunteer fire department in an effective and efficient manner.
I want you to read and review my words. I then want you to think about what I have suggested. Some of it will work for you and some of it will not. If I can make you think about how to do your job more effectively, then my work here was not in vain. Thinking is the key to success in all of life's endeavors.
