Resuscitated

Dr. Sarah Belden learns that no good deed goes unpunished.

Dr. Sarah Belden is awakened by the shrill voice on the phone: "We have an emergency, you’d better come stat to the delivery room. Preemie, extremely small, any second.” She flies into action knowing this is her moment, a baby's life will depend on her. The challenge awaiting her is exhilarating but also alarming. Her worst fears come true when she soon discovers that this is not just any mother in labor, and not just any baby. The woman about to deliver is a mother she knows all too well from three previous tragic pregnancies, and the tiny baby has no signs of life whatsoever. Apgar score zero: no pulse, not breathing, quickly turning blue-black from lack of oxygen, completely limp, and not responding to stimulation. Young Dr. Belden has but one chance to make a life-or-death decision: declare a stillbirth and leave things alone? Or try to resuscitate? Her choice will haunt her for the rest of her life.
