Marc meets Howard during his final year at graduate school. Howard is Marc’s dream of what a real man should look like: tall, dark and muscular. When Marc discovers that Howard shares his minority affectional orientation, the two men become lovers.
Upon graduation, they plan to escape prairie winters by moving from Winnipeg to Vancouver, British Columbia. They dream of their life on the coast: a house with an ocean view, skiing Grouse Mountain, and sailing the Salish Sea.
Marc successfully interviews for a teaching position on the coast. If Howard can land an engineering job, their dream will be realized.
Marc’s plans for a life with Howard are destroyed when Howard accepts an engineering position in Winnipeg. He cannot overcome the guilt instilled by his conservative religious upbringing, which tells him that men who love men will burn forever in hellfire.
Twenty-five years later, disillusioned with his lonely life on the coast, Marc returns to the prairies. He reconnects with his former lover, but learns that Howard, after recently undergoing reparative therapy, is about to marry a woman.
Will Marc win Howard back before he makes the biggest mistake of his life?
