Open Data provides social and economic benefit for governments and citizens. Mobile applications are an enabler for Open Data to reach a broad range of citizens. This book will provide an overview of both Open Data and mobile technologies. The book will also profile organizations that are active in advocating Open Data and provide the reader with a glimpse of how they can get involved within their own levels of government and join the growing interest toward becoming a Public Developer. It will then provide the reader with a step-by-step guide to develop multiple mobile applications that use Open Data.
The book is divided into four key sections:
1) Public Development Topics – this section reviews Open Government, Open Data and Open Policy concepts and delves into organizations that are helping to push the agenda forward with their areas of government
2) Mobile Development Overview – this section introduces the key mobile development technologies that will be expanded upon in order to build re-usable mobile apps that use Open Data
3) Developing our Mobile Apps – the development of multiple mobile apps that show just a few practical examples for Open Data use will be detailed in this section
4) Beyond the Public Developer – this section provides information on topics that would be of interest to developers or Open Data advocates as they promote and apply their skills within their own organizations or companies
If you have been interested in trying to apply Open Data concepts toward mobile applications then this is a must read.
