Pharaoh's Midwives A Retelling of the Nurse Midwives in Exodus

All of Pharaoh's court believes that Puah is a good Egyptian who knows where she will be buried. Yet, after the death of her son she starts to question all she ever understood about herself, Egypt and the Apiru, the foreigners who have become the slaves of Egypt. She allies herself with the former Chief Midwife Shipporah who was disgraced when the current Pharaoh purged Egypt of the memory of his mother. After Puah's greatest prayer is answered by an ancient Apiru cure, she learns that she and Shipporah are pawns caught between the Pharaoh Thutmosis and Tankhit, Chief Steward of the Temple of Hothar. They defy the greatest power on earth and put their own lives at risk to prevent the genocide of the sons of the Apiru.

Blending Egyptian archeology with Jewish folklore and theology, Pharaoh's Midwives builds upon six short verses in the first chapter of Exodus to create a story of the personal transformation of two heroic nurse midwives who oppose the command of Pharaoh to do what is just for those in their care.
